La Giornata Internazionale della Donna è spesso intesa come un giorno in cui la donna debba essere festeggiata. Sfortunatamente c’è poco da celebrare: la pandemia ha evidenziato le disuguaglianze strutturali nella nostra società e ha messo in luce la condizione di discriminazione vissuta da alcuni membri della nostra comunità. Il fenomeno è transnazionale e fortemente radicato nella nostra società.
Il progetto All About Eve, si interroga sulla rappresentazione delle donne e su come sono ritratte nei media e nello spazio pubblico. Non c’è dubbio che nello scorso anno i giornali si siano riempiti di notizie sui femminicidi, spesso caratterizzate dall’attenzione ossessiva per i dettagli morbosi del delitto. Ogni vittima è un fallimento del sistema, ogni vita spezzata ci ricorda che l’8 marzo è un giorno di lotta, come tutti gli altri giorni.
Per mettere in luce queste lotte, abbiamo raccolto i dati delle chiamate effettuate nel 2019 e 2020 alla linea telefonica dedicata al contrasto alla violenza di genere in Grecia, Italia e Spagna, in collaborazione con le organizzazioni partner con le quali stiamo sviluppando l’iniziativa progettuale, Fundació Aroa (Spagna) e European Anti Violence Network (Grecia), sebbene siano molto diversi, c’è una costante in tutti i Paesi: nel 2020 le chiamate sono aumentate.
International women’s day is often thought as a day when women should be celebrated. Unfortunately there is little to celebrate: the pandemic highlighted structural inequalities in our society and shed light on the condition of discrimination experienced by some members of our community.
The phenomenon is transnational and deeply rooted in our society. The project all about Eve questions the representation of women and how they are portrayed in the media and in the public space – there is no doubt that in the past year the newspapers were filled with news of femicides, mostly marked out by an obsessive attention for the grim details of the murder. Every victim is a failure of the system, every life taken reminds us that the 8th of March is a day for fight, as every other day.
As a testimony to the importance of these fights, we collected the number of calls received in 2019 and 2020 by the helpline for victims of gender violence in Greece, Italy and Spain, in cooperation with Fundació Aroa and European Anti Violence Network. Although these numbers are very different, one thing is the same in every country: in 2020 calls were more than in the previous year.
